Happy Birthday Hank!

Two years ago today, we welcomed a baby brother and son to our family. Of course, like most parents, we're going to say what a joy he is, how we can't imagine our life without him, etc., etc. But in all honesty, he is just the best. He's something else. He makes us laugh. He's smart. He's amazingly cute, front tooth or not. He's a lover. He's a stinker. He's Hank McGuffey and we can't imagine our life without him.

Happy 2nd Birthday Hank, Hanky, Hanky Boy, Hank McGuffey, Bubba, Bubba Boy, Tractor Boy!!!

The girls 'helped' me make the cupcakes
Odd, I could have sworn there was a cupcake there
Ah ha! Hank,  you stinker!
We had a nice little cookout on Sunday with some of the family to celebrate Hank's big day.

This is Hank coming out and seeing his new John Deere for the first time

He LOVES it! I can't imagine a better gift. And the matching hat is too cute!

Hank with some cousins and the sisters. Is Carolyn hugging him or trying to choke his so she can have the first ride?

School Starts!!!

This past week was a crazy, sick, exciting week. Tuesday was the first day of 1st grade for Eleanor. She could hardly contain her excitement for going to school all-day, everyday. Her teacher is Mrs. Denison and I expect Eleanor to have a fantastic school year.

That's the exciting part of the week. Now for the sick. Carolyn woke up Tuesday vomiting. Starting preschool, her actual, ride-the-bus, first day of school wasn't until Wednesday. So I stayed home with her Tuesday in hopes of getting her well enough for the big first day the following day. We had a quick meeting with her new teacher, Ms. Fuller. This is Ms. Fuller's very first class. She just graduated in December and is full of enthusiasm and new, fun ideas.

Carolyn felt well enough to ride her scooter to school during the meeting with Ms. Fuller

After the meeting with Ms. Fuller, we went to Sandy's to get Eleanor off the school bus.

Wednesday Carolyn woke up feeling chipper and excited for school. She had a few sips of water while waiting for me to get ready then asked for French toast. Her first day of school breakfast, or not. Nope, she couldn't even get a bite in before the water came back up. And she's 0-1.

But there was still a glimmer of hope for Thursday, the last day of school for the week for the preschool. That hope faded at 8pm when up came her dinner. Ugh, poor girl.

Off to Grandma's Thursday morning so mom could get to work. We packed her cute pink dress and took her backpack just in case. Just before school would start I called to hear she was feeling well, had a breakfast of toast and juice. On the phone she was hesitant to go to school but agreed to walk down there and see how she felt once there.  Grandma walked her down, big sister Eleanor spotted them and ran over to give Carolyn a big hug. Grandma said it was quite chaotic and the two little kids in her class crying inconsolably didn't help, but she was able to get Carolyn to her class and leave her to have her first day of school!

I couldn't wait to pick her up to hear how her first day of school was and her first bus ride back to Sandy's. I was so sad to walk in and see her laying on the sofa sick again, or still. She had a nice day at school, rode the bus back to Sandy's, but lunch upset her stomach and after nap she was feeling cruddy again. As we left, she got sick. But shortly after getting home so was being silly and cracking me up. Carolyn was back! She let me get some first day of school pictures but I wasn't going to chance it and made her stick with the BRAT foods for dinner - banana, rice, applesauce and toast (and water with ice).

More BRAT Friday at Sandy's and our girl was back. We celebrated the first week of school with dinner at the Union Coffee House and ice cream from The Sweet Shoppe!
