Big sister

Matt picked Eleanor up from daycare and brought her to the hospital to meet her baby sister. We've tried preparing Eleanor for having a baby sister and for as much as a 2-year-old can, she understood.

As Eleanor walked into our room at the hospital, her expression was priceless. She saw me first, then her baby sister in my arms. Eleanor got this look of amazement on her face as her arms went down to her sides and she leaned towards Carolyn to get a better look. She immediately jumped up on the bed and hugged and kissed Carolyn wanting to hold her.

So her initial reaction was great. She even handled me and Carolyn staying at the hospital while her and Matt went home fine. And ever since we came home on Saturday, Eleanor has been a great, attentive, little big sister. Always wanting to hug and kiss Carolyn.

I had thoughts that Eleanor would be jealous (which if she is, she handles it well) and be upset when I would hold Carolyn and not her. But to my surprise, the other night Carolyn was in her bouncy chair while I was making dinner and started fussing. Eleanor ran over to me and said, "Hold baby sister". I think we're all going to be great!

I'm really glad Eleanor is adapting so well. You just never know as some kids have a hard time with it and some kids like Eleanor totally embrace it. You're very lucky!
